    Dr. Robert Bailey

A B.Sc. and M.Sc. graduate of the University of Guelph, Dr. Bailey did his doctoral studies at The University of Western Ontario, where he became a faculty member in 1986 and eventually led development and operation of campus-wide, interdisciplinary research and education programs in Environment and Sustainability.  Dr. Bailey’s research activities have centered on bio-assessment and bio-monitoring of freshwater ecosystems, from Yukon streams affected by placer gold mining to stream agro-ecosystems in southwestern Ontario exposed to intense and varied agriculture. In 2009, Dr. Bailey came to Cape Breton University as Vice-President Academic & Professional Studies (Provost). He has maintained his research, shifting focus to Cape Breton streams with a legacy of past industrial activity and varying strategies of remediation, and continues to teach statistics to undergraduate biology students at CBU and graduate students at partner institutions.
