United Church of Canada
The Verschuren Centre has been working with the United Church of Canada and the Ecology Action Centre to improve the energy performance of two churches in the Cape Breton region. The Verschuren Centre secured funding through the Goverment of Nova Scotia's Low Carbon Communities Program, with contributions from Faith and the Common Good and the Ecology Action Centre, to create Energy Plans for Knox United Church and St. John's United Church. Much of the groundwork has been completed, and there is an opportunity to increase both churches' energy efficiency, electrify the oil-based heating load, and install solar photovoltaics through net metering agreements. If the churches are in agreement, the Verschuren Centre and the Ecology Action Centre plan on leveraging the United Church of Canada's Faithful Footprint Retrofit Grants to execute the energy improvement measures.
