Our Expertise

Bio Manufacturing

The Bio Manufacturing team operates a unique bioprocess production model that combines both upstream and downstream operations. This team consists of fermentation expertise and the engineering know-how to support process development, optimization and scale-up, and product recovery and characterization services. This is a niche opportunity for our clients to shadow our team and develop their products from benchtop to pilot scale, validating and de-risking their technology to ensure they hit commercial targets.

Bio Resource

The Bio Resource team is dedicated to maximizing the value of various under-utilized resources by implementing greener production methods using bioprocessing and separation technologies from lab to commercial scale. By developing efficient and innovative separation approaches, this team enables its clients to deploy clean technologies that foster a circular economy.

 

 

Bio Agriculture

The Bio Agriculture team is committed to helping clients develop sustainable solutions in support of agricultural innovation. Through the use of our plant growth facilities, analytical laboratories and client-based solutions, this team provides scalable solutions that enable clients to optimize their products for increased crop yield and improved agronomic characteristics.

Energy Systems

The Energy Systems team aims to enable the energy transition through modelling and technology scale-up. By utilizing this team’s net-zero modelling services, clients are provided with a technology agnostic, system-level analysis of their energy use and decarbonization options to inform their transition planning. In addition, the VC is positioning itself to create an environment to advance lab proven clean thermal technologies to market, providing industry with decarbonization solutions that target industrial thermal processes.

 

Carbon Transformation

The Carbon Transformation team provides clients with technical expertise to develop new and improved sustainable materials for a net-zero future. Our state-of-the-art characterization equipment enables our clients to gain further insight into their materials. With the support from this team, clients optimize their processes and advance their technology, transforming carbon-based feedstock into next generation materials and biofuels.

Bio Polymer

The Bio Polymer team focuses on developing greener packaging alternatives through upcycling, recycling, and developing new sustainable materials that provide greater functionality. Our benchtop extrusion and material processing suite offers clients a small-scale solution to produce and test different plastic blends and prototype properties.

 
 

Aquaculture

The Aquaculture team aims to realize the full potential of Nova Scotia's Bras D'Or Lake’s oyster industry by developing MSX oyster disease mitigation strategies and new deployment & detection tools. The team is also involved with remediation strategies using organic extractives to purify contaminated water supplies.
